Eric Lee, founder of PJ Youth Symphony has also been the Music Director and Principal Conductor of the PJ Youth Symphonic Band since January 1994 and Resident Conductor and tutor of the Catholic High School Band (Champion of the All-Malaysian Band Competition since 2000) since 1990. Eric has also recently been appointed conductor and tutor of the Assunta Girls'm School Band and also Tsung Tsin High School Symphony Band in Kota Kinabalu. Apart from that, he is also the founder of Just Brass Ensemble which performs extensively in KL and has recently been invited to perform in Brunei .
In September 1997, Eric received a full scholarship to study trombone at the Honk Kong Academy of the Performing Arts (HKAPA). While in Hong Kong, Eric participated in master classes with the American Horn Quartet, Luur Metals Spanish Brass Quintet, Roger Bobo (a renowned tuba soloist) and James Da Sanol (Principal Trombone, Cleveland Symphony Orchestra). During his year in Hong Kong , he often performs with the Hong Kong Sinfionetta. Eric has also studied under John Swallow (New York City Ballet), Scot Hartman (former Empire Brass) and Jan Mortensen (Royal Danish Opera), Jim Olin (Baltimore Symphony Orchestra) and conducting with Mark Shanahan (English National Opera). For six consecutive years since 1996, Eric was selected to represent Malaysia at the Asian Youth Orchestra (AYO). As a member of the AYO, Eric has performed in over 20 countries and more than 40 cities and venues including the Royal Concertgebouw, Konzertbaus Berlin , Sydney Opera House etc. Under the baton of Maestro Sergiu Commisiona and Mark Churchill, and performed with some renowned artistes like Yo-Yo Ma, Leon Fleisher, Hakan Hardenberger and Misch Maisky. And most recently yhis year, in the AYO Tour, Eric was given the opportunity to conduct the AYO Brass Ensemble in Japan . In 1999, Eric made his conducting debut with the Kuala Lumpur Symphony Orchestra (KLSO) for its Production of "Johan and Si Belang" ( Malaysia 's own version of Peter and the Wolf), and later that year conducted the critically acclaimed local production of "The Sound of Music". Since then, he has been regularly conducting the KLSO. He has also be appointed for various concerts for the Penang State Symphony Orchestra and Chorus as a Guest Conductor. Currently, Eric in the Principal Trombone with the National Symphony Orchestra and is actively involved in giving workshops throughout Malaysia , Thailand and Singapore . Apart from that, Eric also freelances with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra.
